The Nvidia Shield is the best box for wannabe Android TV owners. Not only does it stream content in 4K HDR, but it plays a whole host of games you won’t find on any other streaming device thanks to Nvidia’s GeForce Now streaming service. On top of the games and 4K content, you’ll find Amazon Instant Video here (the Shield is the only Android TV device with Amazon) and Google Assistant integration. It’s a bit pricey, but it’s well worth it.
One of our favourite TV boxes. The Fire TV Stick is a decent buy at £40, but at £25 it’s a steal. This is a Black Friday deal from Amazon and we’re not sure how long this will last, so grab it quickly while it remains at this price.

A traditional 1080p game requires 124 million shaded pixels per second to render the visualizations. Oculus Rift’s VR program needs about three times that rendering power. According to the company blog, a Rift runs at 2160x1200p on dual displays and requires somewhere in the range of 400 million shaded pixels per second. TL;DR, most computers are way too weak to run VR headsets.

According to documents obtained exclusively by The Verge, Google is about to launch a renewed assault on your television set called Android TV. Major video app providers are building for the platform right now. Android TV may sound like a semantic difference — after all, Google TV was based on Android — but it’s something very different. Android TV is no longer a crazy attempt to turn your TV into a bigger, more powerful smartphone. “Android TV is an entertainment interface, not a computing platform,” writes Google. “It’s all about finding and enjoying content with the least amount of friction.” It will be “cinematic, fun, fluid, and fast.”
Today Oculus Rift unveiled three new VR-ready PCs that excited, ready-to-be-completely-immersed gamers can pre-order in one week. The new PC towers, from Dell, Alienware, and ASUS, are designed to handle the powerful new VR graphics, which take a massive amount of rendering power to bring games to life in your headset.
Last comment I made it was working just fine after testing it several times. However, the last few times I tried in recent days it didn’t work for Netflix – but it did work for other I thought it was probably because I haven’t gone through the full configuration of my router (didn’t need to previously). I haven’t had a chance to test it out fully yet with the router to see if it still works. I will report back once I’ve had the chance to test.
And there’s another, Nvidia-specific ace up the Shield’s sleeve, too: cloud-based game streaming via the company’s own GeForce Now service. Through this you can play premium PC games such as The Witcher 3.

Hi Just like to add my situation to the Smart TV story. I have a 50″ LG tv with no smart ability, not even a usb slot for photo slideshow viewing. I purchased a Samsung BD-F6500 Smart 3D Blu-ray Player & it gives me options to play CD/DVD/BLU-RAY/USB “to show Movies,Photo’s,Music” generally any multimedia files. The real bonus is it wirelessly connected to my Virgin 152mb Internet, no effort at all, thus giving me access to Internet on my LG tv.
Utilizing the Samsung Apps platform on your Samsung TV starts with connecting the TV to the internet. It might sound hard but it’s actually a simple process. If you get the wireless adapter you can even avoid the hassle of running a cable to your TV. Find out more from the links below:
iPlayer’s other celebrated feature is high definition content, which is ripped straight from the BBC’s two HD channels. However, if you have a keen eye for quality you’ll notice that HD programmes seem to have been compressed somewhat so they can be streamed down the pipes without causing any hiccups.
